Is it left ovary works after hysterectomy?
It depends on the type of hysterectomy that is performed.
Total hysterectomy:
- In a total hysterectomy, both the uterus and cervix are removed.
- If both ovaries are also removed, it is called a total hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy.
- If one ovary is removed and the other is left in place, it is called a total hysterectomy with unilateral oophorectomy.
- If only the uterus is removed, leaving at least one ovary intact, the ovaries will continue to function normally and produce hormones.
Subtotal hysterectomy:
- In a subtotal hysterectomy, only the body of the uterus is removed, while the cervix is left in place.
- Both ovaries will remain in place.
