What is a hysterosalpinography?
Hysterosalpingography (HSG) or uterosalpingography is a medical procedure in which a contrast medium (usually iodine) is injected into the cervix, and X-rays are taken to visualize the shape of the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes.
It is used to obtain information regarding possible causes of infertility and other uterine conditions, such as fibroids, polyps, or uterine abnormalities.
It can also be performed to check the patency (openness) of the fallopian tubes, as blocked fallopian tubes can cause infertility.
Hysterosalpingography is a minimally invasive procedure usually performed in an outpatient setting.
