A salpingo-oophorectomy is a surgical procedure in which one or both fallopian tubes (salpingectomy) and one or both ovaries (oophorectomy) are removed. The removal of the ovaries means that the body will no longer produce eggs or the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which are responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle. Therefore, after a salpingo-oophorectomy, a woman will no longer have periods.
