Modern Pinguecula Removal

Taking good care of your eyes is essential. Overexposure to sunlight can damage eyes permanently. It can also lead to a pinguecula infection. This affliction can often be treated with medication. But a recurring or severe case requires surgical removal.
  1. Identification

    • A pinguecula is a lesion that forms on the eye. It can cause eye irritation and redness. Left untreated, pingueculae can lead to an infection that causes the eye to swell.

    Risks

    • Untreated pingueculae can lead to the growth of pterygia. Pterygia can mar the appearance of the eye, giving a person the impression that something is in the eye and lead to astigmatisms.

    Removal

    • Light cases of pingueculae are often treated by medicated eye drops. Severe cases need to be removed. Pingueculae are removed by surgery performed by an eye doctor.
