What to treat the eye with if it was poked?
First aid for a poked eye:
1. Immediately and thoroughly wash your eye with cool water. This will help the eye wash away any bacteria that may have been introduced by the poking object.
2. Do not rub your eye. Rubbing your eye can further damage the cornea and may lead to infection.
3. If you are wearing contacts, remove them. Contacts can further damage the cornea if they are left in.
4. Apply a cold compress to your eye. A cold compress can help reduce swelling and pain.
5. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. This can help relieve pain and inflammation.
6. If your vision is blurry or you are experiencing severe pain, seek medical attention immediately. These could be signs of a serious eye injury.
Additional tips for treating a poked eye:
* Avoid using any sharp or pointed objects around your eyes.
* Be careful when using chemicals around your eyes.
* Wear protective eyewear when doing activities that could put your eyes at risk of injury, such as sports, yard work, or home improvement projects.
* If you have a chronic eye condition, such as glaucoma or cataracts, talk to your doctor about how to protect your eyes from injury.
