How much rest is needed when appendectomy performed?
First 24-48 hours:
- Rest in the hospital as you recover from surgery and anesthesia.
- Gradually start walking around the hospital room as tolerated.
- Eat a light diet as recommended by your doctor.
First week:
- Return home from the hospital when your doctor says it's safe.
- Continue to take it easy and rest at home.
- Avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and high-impact sports.
- Take pain medication as prescribed to manage discomfort.
Second week:
- Follow up with your doctor for a post-operative check-up.
- Gradually increase your activity level, but still avoid strenuous activities.
- Continue to get plenty of rest and take it easy.
Third week and beyond:
- Most people are able to return to their normal activities by the third week.
- Gradually resume your usual exercise routine, but listen to your body and don't push yourself too hard.
- Follow any specific instructions or restrictions provided by your doctor.
