Network of conducting tissue located in the ventricular myocardium?
The network of conducting tissue located within the ventricular myocardium and responsible for the coordinated contraction of the ventricles during systole is called the Purkinje fibers. These specialized cardiac muscle fibers form an intricate network that originates in the bundle of His, which branches into the left and right bundle branches, and further into numerous terminal Purkinje fibers that spread throughout the ventricular myocardium. The rapid electrical conduction through these fibers ensures that the depolarization wave reaches the ventricular muscle efficiently and synchronously, allowing the synchronized ventricular contraction necessary for pumping blood out of the heart during systole.
