For efficiency purposes, Welch Allyn also manufactures electronic handles that can be fitted with various instruments. These handles are cordless and are powered with a rechargeable battery. If you'd like to change a battery in your Welch Allyn handle, you can open the unit up.

  Grip the Welch Allyn handle where the head connects to the body of the unit. Turn the head counter-clockwise to loosen and remove it from the body.The metal transformer will now be visible at the end of the body of the handle.

  Turn the transformer assembly counter-clockwise to loosen and remove it from the body of the unit. The battery will now be visible in the body of the unit.

  Turn the handle upside down, and the battery will slide out of the body.

  Slide a new battery into the body of the handle, making sure that the terminal end of the battery is up.

  Replace the transformer and head of the unit.
