Side Effects of Thermal Ablation

Thermal ablation, or laser therapy, is a surgical procedure that is used to treat varicose veins of the leg. This procedure is usually safe but some patients may experience side effects after the surgery.
  1. Tiredness

    • According to the Cleveland Clinic, a patient may be more tired than usual for a few weeks following an endovenous thermal ablation procedure.

    Pain

    • Patients may notice pain at the ablation site for a couple of weeks after a thermal ablation surgery.

    Bruising

    • Abnormal bruising may occur at the site of a thermal ablation. The bruising normally clears up within two weeks of the procedure.

    Numbness

    • In rare cases a thermal ablation patient may notice numbness or tingling along the shin for several days after the laser procedure.

    Blood Clot

    • Thermal ablation patients run some risk of developing a blood clot in the veins near the treatment area.
