Infection Symptoms After Gynecological Surgery

According to Anshu Gupta, M.D., infection is the most common of all of the post-gynecological surgery risks. When performing gynecological surgery, doctors are having to operate near the bladder, rectum and important vessels. Contact with these areas can cause an infection that will be revealed by several symptoms.

Pain

• Pain in the area of the infection is a common symptom. The infection will occur near the surgical site, which will be very sore. Shallow breathing from the intense pain may cause pneumonia.

Fever

• Fever is a symptom of infection after gynecological surgery. If your fever is over 101 degrees F, you should consult your physician immediately to check for infection.

Trouble Urinating

• Pain or trouble urinating may be a sign of an infection after gynecological surgery. Many infections are caused from the catheters that are inserted to drain urine.

Heart Rate

• A fast heart rate is also a sign of an infection after gynecological surgery. If your heart beat is over 100 beats per minute, consult your doctor.

Shortness of Breath

• Shortness of breath could be a sign that you have an infection. Especially if the shallow breaths are due to intense pain, get checked by your doctor.
