Get rest and stay off your feet as much as possible for the first 24 hours after surgery. Do not exercise or do any heavy lifting for several days after your operation.

Wear compression stockings or to help promote proper blood circulation for at least the first week after varicose vein surgery.

Take medicine for pain. Take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain mild pain. Call your doctor if your pain requires a stronger prescription medication.

Avoid standing for extended periods of time for the first two weeks after your operation. Keep your legs elevated to at least hip level while sitting to stop swelling and reduce blood pressure on your incision site.

Watch for possible side effects such as clotting or excessive bleeding. Call you doctor immediately if you exhibit either of these symptoms.
