Will a meningioma eventually require surgery?
Not all meningiomas will require surgery. The decision to perform surgery is usually based on the size and location of the tumor. Generally, smaller meningiomas that are not causing any symptoms may be monitored closely with periodic imaging tests, rather than immediately removed. However, if the meningioma is growing, causing neurological symptoms, or is affecting nearby structures in the brain or spinal cord, surgery may be necessary to remove the tumor and relieve symptoms.
