Types of Liposuction
-
Fluid Injection
-
This type is used primarily for abdominal liposuction. The doctor injects a small amount of saline solution into the surgery site; this makes it easier for fat removal and acts as an anesthetic as well.
Tumescent Liposuction
-
While a solution is used similar to that as in the solution used for fluid liposuction, the amount is greater, making the fat removal process quicker and easier. It also reduces the risk of damaging adjoining tissue.
Ultrasound Liposuction
-
This is a form of tumescent liposuction, however a vacuum tube is used that transmits ultrasound waves. These waves assist in the process and help loosen and remove the fat.
Time Frame
-
The general recovery period after a liposuction procedure is four weeks. This will depend on the type of procedure you have.
Considerations
-
Most patients need to wear some type of compression garment while they are recovering which aids in their healing and helps them obtain the best results. Pain medications may also be necessary for a period of up to two weeks.
