How to Get a Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation can refer to several different procedures, including the injection of soft material like silicone or saline solution, the introduction of a facial implant or genioplasty. In any case, the steps needed to go about getting chin augmentation are generally the same. Here's the basic process explained.

Look at yourself objectively, inside and out, and think about whether or not you genuinely require chin augmentation. Are you doing it for the right reasons? Are you being pressured into it in any way, shape or form? Do you need the procedure for self-esteem reasons? If you have any doubts about these questions, or others of a similar nature, then reconsider the entire process.

Find a qualified, reliable plastic surgeon. Ask your primary care doctor for a referral, ask family and friends for a recommendation or research online. One great resource can be found at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website (see Resources below), which lists licensed, professional plastic surgeons. When looking for a plastic surgeon, make certain that they have experience with chin augmentation in particular, not just with plastic surgery.

Schedule an appointment with your selected surgeon regarding a possible chin augmentation procedure, asking your doctor which type of chin augmentation is right for you. The easiest, least invasive procedure involves the injection of saline solution into the soft tissue in the chin area. This has a quick recovery time of only a day or two and isn't very painful, but also isn't permanent. A facial implant will involve surgery, more pain and a recovery time of at least a couple of weeks, but it is permanent. Genioplasty, on the other hand, completely reconstructs the chin area's bone, flesh and connective tissue. This is the most invasive, costly and painful, and it has the longest recovery time. On the other hand, for those in need of serious chin augmentation, genioplasty is probably the best option.

Take at least a couple of weeks and reflect on the entire situation. Are you happy with the surgeon? Are you comfortable with the procedure as it was described to you? Does the price seem both reasonable and like something you can afford? Do you think that you have selected the right kind of procedure? If anything is bothering you, then contact your surgeon or go back to the first step and start the process over again.
