How to Tell if Your Surgeon Is Legitimate

Having a surgical procedure is a life-changing experience so you should feel completely confident with your choice of surgeon. Some surgeons claim to be fully qualified, legitimate, certified and run a good practice. This may be the case, but there are certain signs to look out for when deciding which one is the best for you and whether they are in fact telling the full truth.

  1. Look Out for Certain Signs to Make Sure Your Surgeon is Legitimate

    • 1

In America, any one who practices medicine must be certified. This includes: doctors, nurses. surgeons and plastic surgeons. Every practitioner will have a different type of board certification if they specialize in something more than general medicine. For example general practice doctors will have a different certification from cosmetic surgeons. You will need to look into what type of surgeon you require and what certification he should have. If you require a cosmetic surgeon look for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. This means the doctor has a qualification in cosmetic surgery.

Cost is another sign that may indicate whether your surgeon is legitimate or not. If a practice is offering really cheap surgery, hundreds or even thousands of dollars less than others, this may be a sign the surgeon is not legitimate.

    • 3

Speak to your own doctor. They may know of surgeons locally who are certified and legitimate.

    • 4

If you have chosen what you believe to be a legitimate surgeon, research his work online or ask if he has patients that do not mind talking to you about their experience. Legitimate surgeons will not mind you doing this and will understand why you want to be completely confident.
