How to Find an Experienced Surgeon
Instructions
-
-
1
Talk to your family physician. If he suggests you may need surgery, he can refer you to an experienced surgeon who specializes in the procedure you may need.
-
2
Ask friends, family, or coworkers to recommend a qualified and experienced surgeon. Talk to anyone that has undergone the same procedure and ask if they were satisfied with their surgeon. A previous patient will let you know of any complications they had and about the surgeon's bedside manner.
-
3
Call the local hospital or your health plan provider and ask if they have a surgeon referral service. This service provides patients with a surgeon experienced in a certain field. They will provide you with information on a surgeon that is closest to you.
-
4
Do an online search of surgeons in your area on the American College of Surgeons website. Here, you can do a search by name, location and specialty. It will then provide you with contact information for the surgeon you choose.
-
5
Read online reviews of what other patients have said about a specific surgeon. Surgeons can be found by specialty, location or last name. Most surgeons listed are rated by previous patients and may have a written review from the patient explaining whether or not they were pleased with this surgeon.
