Alkaline phosphatase is a necessary component of the human body's chemistry. Scientists and researchers induce alkaline phosphatase to study what happens when the substance reaches excessive levels.

    • Alkaline phosphatase is a type of enzyme created by bone-forming cells in the human body and other mammals. These enzymes have the highest levels of concentrations in the liver and bones and help keep the body's overall pH alkaline by reducing the amount of phosphorus, a highly acidic mineral.

    Enzyme Inducing

    • Scientists induce the alkaline phosphatase enzyme when researching liver diseases and liver functioning. Induction of the enzyme occurs by injecting test subjects with glycerin, hepatin, cortisol and a number of other substances. These items serve to increase the amount of alkaline phosphatase in the liver.

    Tests

    • After inducing alkaline phosphatase in test subjects, scientists study the effects the increased amount of the enzyme has on the subject. Studies of increased amounts of alkaline phosphatase find that elevated levels result in increased bile production, excessive bone growth and gall bladder dysfunctions.
