Pain From a Ureteral Stent Removal
-
The Immediate Pain
-
After time wearing a swizzle stick size stent in your spaghetti size ureter, expect at least minimal discomfort when its removed. The cytoscopy procedure places a small tube in the urethra after it is coated with lidocaine, a topical anesthetic. The urologist will ask you to take a deep breath while he pulls the stent out.
Post Cytoscopic Pain
-
Some patients report discomfort after experiencing a cytoscopic procedure. This must be assessed by your urologist to determine if any infection or inflammation is present.
Fallen Stents
-
Stents that aren't removed rarely may fall out with the passing of urine. The passing may cause pain. The stent should be saved and taken to your urologist immediately.
