Post-Surgery Care of a SPARC Cystoscopy

A SPARC cystoscopy is used in the treatment of female urinary incontinence. It works to alleviate incontinence, which is the involuntary release of urine during activities such as sneezing, coughing or laughing. During surgery, a sling is placed beneath the urethra to give it extra support during these activities.
  1. Pain

    • After surgery, you will likely be given several medications. One is to treat any pain you experience post-surgery. Unless your surgeon has given you specific instructions regarding this medication, only take a pain pill when you need it, and do not take more than the recommended amount. Taking more than instructed may lead to an overdose.

    Infection

    • Another important post-surgery prescription is the one you are given for antibiotics. These are taken to reduce your risk of infection, and you should taken the entire recommended dosage. Do not discontinue your antibiotics, even if you feel well. An incomplete course of these medications can lead to infections that are even harder to cure.

    Blood Clots

    • As soon as recommended by your physician, begin moving around by taking short walks. Although you will not be able to tolerate strenuous physical activity immediately following your surgery, walking around the house in the following days reduces your risk of developing dangerous blood clots in your legs.
