Laser Tattoo Surgery
Tattoos are no longer taboo given that over 10 million Americans have them. Many people eventually regret the permanency of their body art. Laser tattoo surgery is an option for those who want to remove their tattoos.-
History
-
In the past, tattoo removal required more invasive surgical methods that resulted in heavy scarring. Laser surgery, however, is the product of recent medical advancements. It is much more efficient than previous methods and leaves behind far less scarring.
Function
-
Laser tattoo surgery uses laser beams to break tattoo ink into tiny pieces. These pieces are then further broken down and removed by the body.
Time Frame
-
Each removal session usually takes several minutes, but can take longer depending on the size, color and quality of the tattoo. Multiple removal sessions are necessary followed by a few days of recovery after each session. A four to eight week time period is required between procedures.
Warning
-
The risks that come with laser tattoo surgery include light flaking of the skin, temporary discoloring of the tattoo area and a very small chance of some scarring.
Considerations
-
It is important to understand that not all tattoos can be removed completely. New tattoos, as well as those placed on people with darker skin or located in areas with little body fat, are much harder to remove.
