Post Sinus Surgery Recovery

Recovery from sinus surgery can take two days to several weeks depending on the extent of the surgery. After surgery the patient can go home, but he should avoid activities like driving, swimming, etc. for two days because of the general anesthesia he was given.
  1. Bloody Drainage

    • After sinus surgery, bloody drainage with mucous is a common sight in the first two to three days. This will resolve itself within a week, once the healing process starts.

    Post Surgery Packing

    • Patients who have been released with post-surgery packing following a full septoplasty will encounter an uncomfortable nasal passage and a lot of congestion.

    Pain

    • Patients undergoing minor surgery will have relatively little pain compared to patients undergoing a full septoplasty. The pain dies down once the packing is removed. Painkillers and antibiotics help relieve this pain.

    Headache

    • Patients who suffer from headache due to the sinus problem can expect to have headaches after sinus surgery. These will subside in a couple of days when recovery starts.

    Inflammation

    • Patients undergoing major sinus surgery can expect inflammation or swelling due to the post operative pain. This will subside with the removal of the packing.
