Father's Rights Concerning Abortion

Abortion is an uncomfortable topic. Whether you are pro-choice, pro-life, or simply don't hold an opinion, chances are if someone brings it up in casual conversation you are going to feel inclined to walk away. One of the most controversial topics when it comes to Abortion is whether or not the Father has any say in whether an abortion happens, or doesn't.
  1. What is Abortion?

    • There are two types of abortion: the first, elective abortion is when the mother makes the choice to not go through with her pregnancy. Therapeutic abortion is when a doctor decides that abortion is necessary to preserve the health of the mother.

    Fathers and Abortion

    • A man has absolutely no say in whether or not a woman chooses to have an abortion. He can voice his opinion, but legally they can't tell the mother what to do.

    Women's Bodies

    • In the eyes of the law, abortion is a woman's issue. It involves her body, and her reproductive system, and whether or not she chooses to abort is ultimately her choice.

    Arguments

    • Many argue that it's not fair a father has no say if he doesn't want an abortion to be the first option, but are held accountable if the mother chooses to have the baby and the father isn't ready for the responsibility.

    Help

    • Many fathers have started to voice their thoughts on the topic of abortion. There are dozens of support websites that are devoted to men sharing their stories and offering each other advice and support through their own personal experiences.
