Hemorrhoidectomy Techniques
Hemorrhoids, commonly referred to as piles, is defined as a condition characterized by the swellings and inflammation of the veins which are located near the anus as well as lower rectal regions. Various factors such as increased strain during bowel movements or exertion of elevated amount of pressure on the veins are often considered to be possible factors leading to hemorrhoids. The Mayo clinic reports that 50 percent of individuals suffer from piles at some stage of their lives. Numerous treatment options are presently available to cure the condition, however hemorrhoidectomy is often considered to be the most effective.-
Hemorrhoidectomy
-
Hemorrhoidectomy is a treatment method which is often prescribed by the doctors to patients suffering from hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoidectomy is generally classified into two forms depending upon the extent of surgery required and the severity of the condition of hemorrhoids. The two forms include general hemorrhoidectomy and stapled hemorrhoidectomy.
General Hemorrhoidectomy
-
The general hemorrhoidectomy procedure is the most commonly administered surgical procedure. In this method a tiny incision is made around the tissues of the hemorrhoids. Then the inflamed tissues are tied together so as to prevent bleeding and then the excess hemorrhoid tissues are surgically cut off. The surgery can be performed either under the influence of general anesthesia or under the the influence of local anesthesia, depending upon the severity of the condition. The surgical procedure lasts for about 1 to 2 hours and in most cases the patient is discharged from the hospital the very same day. However the surgical areas are covered with medicated and sterilized gauze bandages so as to prevent any infection.
Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy
-
Stapled hemorrhoidectomy also commonly known as stapling or stapled hemorrhoidopexy is another form of surgical procedure which is performed on the individuals suffering from hemorrhoids. In this surgical procedure the doctors block the blood flow reaching the hemorrhoid tissues and hence result in the eventual withering and falling off of the hemorrhoid tissues. The surgery is most often performed under the influence of general anesthesia. However the process lasts for about 20 to 30 minutes and the patient is discharged the same day from the hospital. Stapled hemorrhoidopexy generally involves less amount of pain as compared to the general hemorrhoidectomy surgical procedure. However according to a Mayo clinic study, it has been found that stapling involves a greater risk of recurrence when compared with the other hemorrhoidectomy form.
